Alvaro Moreno comes from a family of musicians; the traditional music of Mexico was born in his blood. The violin was his first instrument, and he began studying violin at the age of 5; by the age of 9 he began working professionally in a mariachi group every weekend. Over the years, after dominating each instrument utilized in a mariachi ensemble, he began instructing his younger brothers, which is where his passion for teaching began.

In high school, Alvaro was a member of the orchestra and band. Both in which he played violin and trumpet respectively and placed first chair in both ensembles. Also competing in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in 2008, judged by the best mariachi group in the world, he placed 1st in the High School Category. During High School, Alvaro made numerous soloist performances alongside his high school orchestra, placed first chair in Texas All State Orchestra in 2009, and received first place in his high school’s talent show ’08 and ‘09.

In his professional music career Alvaro has performed on stage with Mexican recording artists such as Ana Gabriel, Diego Verdaguer, and Paquita la del Barrio. He also had the honor of recording the violin section and guitar parts for famous Spanish singer Yolanda del Rio. Furthermore, he has had the opportunity to participate in violin and vocal workshops with some of the most respected mariachis in the industry such as Steven Sandoval and Pepe Martinez Jr. In 2012, Alvaro Moreno arranged a piece for a mariachi and symphony concert for the Houston Youth Orchestra that took place at the Wortham Theatre in Houston, TX. Alvaro is currently the musical director or Mariachi Michoacan of Dallas, TX and in March 2014 they placed 1st in the Houston Rodeo Mariachi Invitational against groups from all over Texas at the Arena Theatre.

With teaching experience since 2005, he has developed many successful violin, guitar and trumpet players. Many of which, have taken their well-trained skills to a professional level, being highly successful in their school symphony, others who play professionally for a living. Alvaro likes to build a good relationship with his students in which students can feel comfortable asking questions and request music individual to them. Alvaro, always professional in his approach, has developed a style of teaching that is motivating and makes each lesson enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding.
